Celebrating Mother’s Day In A New Home

How My Mom Helped Me Through The Build Process As A New Mom

My first Mother’s Day was spent in a brand new home we built in Westfield, IN, Hamilton County. If you are looking for a new home, Hamilton County has so much to offer for any lifestyle. It was a spectacular sunny day and I remember the vibrant planters we had hanging on our front porch and the personalized blanket I had laid out in the back yard for my 9 month old daughter to explore.

Creating the house of your dreams.

Our quaint one story ranch was an open concept floor plan, with a large kitchen island perfect for cooking and just hanging out. The home had lots of windows that drew in natural light that made it warm and cozy. The vaulted ceilings gave it a spacious feeling making our small ranch seem larger. We were nestled in a gorgeous neighborhood and finally in the house we had been wanting to build. It was important to us at the time to find a family-friendly neighborhood in the suburbs of Indianapolis. We chose our builder and our neighborhood because we were able to customize literally every single finish in the house. Once you pick out your own floor plan, and spend some time at the design studio selecting every paint color, countertop, door handle, piece of flooring, you get to start construction. We had a great experience with our builder and everyone we met each step of the way. So many people had a stake in creating the house of our dreams.

Making Trade-Offs with your Options and Upgrades

I must mention my own mom and her influence during our build process. Having built a few homes herself, it was easy for her to help guide us through the selections at the design studio where we made our interior and exterior choices. Her opinions on paint colors, flooring, cabinets, and lighting made our appointment memorable. Our master bedroom was painted the trendy color at the time, now paint colors are trending back to white and neutral colors. Gray homes are still popular and we are still seeing many homeowners choose all variations of gray. We were thrilled with the available included features as our budget for options was smaller back then. At the design studio you need to make trade offs, what may be an important option or upgrade for you may not be for someone else.

Research and Compare Apples-to-Apples

But even before the fun stuff of choosing began, we were researching all of the builders, and that is where my mom came in very handy. We did apples to apples comparison of several builders based on their included features, homesite sizes, floor plan designs, locations, amenities, community appearance, and of course pricing. Did we want to be in Indianapolis, or were we wanting to be in a suburb like Carmel, Noblesville, Fishers, or Westfield? Schools were very important to us and we needed to know what the actual school ratings were. Did we really want to build a new home or did we want to purchase a quick move in? Move-in-ready sounded easier and faster but I really wanted to put my own design personality into this home. There were so many things to consider, but the easiest choice we made was by far choosing new construction. Having everything brand-new was so much fun!

Celebrating special days in your home!

So, just how do you honor and celebrate the mothers in your life? Well all mothers or friends who support you and give you motherly love are as unique as our homes, so it depends. But spending time together, relaxing and entertaining can be one of the best Mother’s Day memories. Just as my first Mother’s day was. So at Pyatt Builders, we want to wish all of you a very HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! We honor you, celebrate you, support, and cherish you. And we hope you are already enjoying or dreaming of your new home this Mother’s day!
