Spring Cleaning Checklist

Spring Cleaning Tips For New Home Owners

The sun’s out, the birds are chirping, and the beauty of spring is blooming everywhere! There’s no better time than the season of new beginnings to freshen up your new home in Indiana. Of course, you want to spend as much time outside as possible, so we’ve put together a list of 10 of the quickest (and most fun) spring cleaning projects that ensure a squeaky clean home in no time.

Quick and Easy Spring Cleaning Tips

Fresh Coffee (Table): First thing’s first, remove everything on your coffee table and start fresh. Wipe off the surface with a strong cleaner to remove any lingering stains. Grab some fresh flowers, an accent piece, and new books that you love, and voila. Spring is here!

Kitchen Sink: Sprinkle baking soda and lemon juice down the drain to start, and let it sit as you wipe the rest of the sink and faucet with a sponge and dish soap. Make sure to focus on the area around the drain and other crevices where grime builds up. Rinse the sink when you’re finished and dry everything with a soft hand towel.

Microwave Makeover: A cup of hot water and half a lemon is all you need to remove those spots and splatters inside your appliance. Heat the mixture on high for about 2 to 3 minutes, then let it sit for a minute before soaking a soft cloth or sponge. Remove the turntable to get around all the nooks and crannies.

Soak the Shower Head: Your shower head can’t reach its full water-spouting potential if it’s covered in mineral deposits. This calls for a vinegar soak! Grab a plastic bag, fill it with white vinegar, and secure it over the shower head. Let it soak, fully submerged, for about a half hour and simply run the shower to rinse.

Dreamy Nightstand: Over time, it’s easy to let water glasses, hair accessories, papers and books, and other items pile up on your nightstand. This spring, make it a priority to give your nightstand a completely new look by clearing it off entirely and wiping it down with a damp microfiber cloth. Then you’re free to style it up!

Unwanted: Emails: Not all wiping has to do with dust or grime… cleaning out your personal email inbox feels just as incredible as any other task! Go through and unsubscribe to any unwanted lists, delete old emails that you don’t need, and organize your inbox into folders (i.e. “vacation,” “events,” “to-do,” “family,” etc.)

Wash the Washing Machine: Yes, even the machine that cleans your clothes needs a good clean. While empty, run your machine on its “clean” cycle if it has one. If not, choose the hottest wash cycle and an added rinse cycle (if possible), and add the cleaner of your choice to the bleach dispenser. If you aren’t able to add an additional rinse cycle, run the rinse again afterward.

Bye, Bye, Beauty: That “I’ll just hold onto this in case” product may have expired! Go through your makeup drawer or bag and toss anything past its expiration date — or ask yourself if you truly need it. Decluttering and lightening your stuff will make a world of difference in how you feel when you use your beauty products.

Shine the Stainless Steel: Make the surfaces of your favorite appliances sparkle again! Mix a teaspoon of dish detergent with a quart of hot tap water. Rub the solution in small sections with a cloth, going with the grain. Rinse with hot water and dry immediately for a squeaky clean look.

Freshen Up Furniture: The upholstery tool on your vacuum is perfect for cleaning your sofas and chairs. Remove cushions and vacuum both sides before switching to the crevice tool for along the stitching and trim. Spray everything down with a little fabric freshener for a scented finish.

This season, quick cleaning tasks will make a world of a difference in your Pyatt Builders home. Happy spring!
